Gilgit to Hunza
Drive through the Karakoram along the Hunza River. Visit Rakaposhi Viewpoint and explore Karimabad.
Hunza → Wildlife Area
Travel into Gojal (Upper Hunza), an important ibex habitat. The Forest, Wildlife & Environment Department identifies Gulmit, Ghulkin, Hussaini and Passu as areas supporting Himalayan ibex. Conduct an early-morning wildlife observation session around suitable mountain slopes and rocky terrain, using binoculars or a spotting scope. Continue towards Gulmit/Passu with additional observation stops according to current wildlife activity.
Ibex Tracking & Photography
Depart early for a dedicated wildlife-tracking day in Upper Gojal, with the primary focus on the Shimshal area. Shimshal is officially identified by the Gilgit-Baltistan wildlife department as an ibex habitat and is also home to blue sheep and snow leopard. Spend the day searching suitable rocky slopes, alpine terrain and mountain valleys with a local wildlife guide/tracker. Observation locations will be selected according to recent sightings, weather, accessibility and animal movement.
Full-Day Wildlife Safari
Begin with another early-morning ibex observation session in the Passu–Gulmit–Ghulkin area. The official GB wildlife department lists Passu, Ghulkin and Gulmit as ibex habitat. Use elevated viewpoints and spotting equipment to observe ibex without disturbing the animals. After the wildlife session, return through Gojal and enjoy the surrounding Karakoram landscapes.
