Thalle La Trek – Hidden Pass of Baltistan
Tour Overview
The Thalle La Trek is a challenging high-altitude trek through the remote mountain landscapes of Baltistan, connecting the valleys of Khaplu and Shigar across the spectacular Thalle La Pass at 4,572 metres. This trek combines high mountain scenery, alpine meadows, traditional Balti villages, grazing pastures and dramatic views of the Karakoram. Along the route, trekkers experience the cultural heritage of Khaplu and Shigar while travelling through less-developed mountain valleys away from Pakistan's busiest trekking routes. The journey also includes time to explore historic landmarks such as Khaplu Palace and Shigar Fort, making this an excellent option for travellers who want to combine high-altitude trekking with the culture and history of Baltistan. The crossing of Thalle La is weather- and condition-dependent. Snow, rainfall, trail conditions and pass accessibility can affect the itinerary, and the final decision to cross the pass rests with the trek leader based on current conditions and group safety.
