Hunza - Fairy Meadows Tour

Drive: Islamabad → Mansehra → Balakot → Kaghan Valley → Naran (if Babusar Pass open June-Oct) OR Islamabad → Hazara Motorway → Besham via KKH (if Babusar closed Nov-May) 08:00 AM departure from Islamabad. Scenic drive: If Babusar open, drive through Kaghan Valley - Balakot, Paras, Mahandri, Naran (2,400m). Stop at Kiwai waterfall, Naran bazaar. Overnight Naran - Hotel Millenium / Northern Retreat (heated rooms). If Babusar closed, drive KKH to Besham (700m) via Hazara Motorway, overnight Besham - Hilton Hotel. Dinner

Early departure. If via Babusar Pass 4,173m (4,173m - highest point of Kaghan Valley): Drive Naran → Babusar Top 4,173m (2 hrs) - spectacular views, Lulusar Lake 3,410m, then descend to Chilas (1,200m) via steep zigzags - 1.5 hrs. If via Besham: Drive Besham → Chilas along Indus River, Kohistan gorges, Dasu dam site. Arrive Chilas, check in hotel. Evening briefing for Fairy Meadows jeep/hike.

Part 1 - Jeep: Raikot Bridge (1,400m) to Tato Village (2,950m) - 16km, 1.5-2 hrs, one of world's most dangerous jeep tracks. Drive Chilas 1 hr to Raikot Bridge on KKH, cross Indus River, then 4x4 jeep up narrow dirt track with sheer drops - thrilling. Reach Tato village (2,950m) - last village, chai stop. Part 2 - Hike: Tato to Fairy Meadows (3,300m) - 5km, 600m gain, 3-4 hrs moderate. Hike through pine forest, with porters for luggage. Mules/horses available for ride $20 extra, or for luggage. Arrive Fairy Meadows (3,300m) - broad green meadow directly facing Nanga Parbat 8,126m Raikot Face - 5,000m vertical wall. Check in wooden cottages (Fairy Meadows Cottages / Raikot Serai). Sunset over Nanga Parbat - golden face - unforgettable.

Early morning sunrise over Nanga Parbat 8,126m from cottage door - best light 06:00-07:30 AM. After breakfast, hike to Beyal Camp. Beyal Camp (3,500m): 3km, 200m gain, 1.5-2 hrs from Fairy Meadows through forest then meadow. Small campsite with closer Nanga Parbat view. Chai at Beyal. Optional Extension to Nanga Parbat Base Camp Viewpoint (3,900m): Beyal to viewpoint 2km, 400m gain, 2-3 hrs additional over Raikot Glacier moraine, rocky. View of Raikot Glacier and Nanga Parbat base camp area. Not full base camp (which is further on glacier) but best viewpoint you can reach in day hike. Return same way to Fairy Meadows

Early breakfast, hike down Fairy Meadows to Tato 2 hrs (downhill easier), jeep down to Raikot Bridge 1.5 hrs, then drive to Hunza via Gilgit. Route: Raikot Bridge → Chilas 1 hr → Gilgit 3-4 hrs (via Indus & Gilgit rivers confluence at Jaglot) → Hunza Karimabad 2.5 hrs. Total 8-10 hrs including breaks. Scenic KKH drive. Arrive Hunza Karimabad (2,500m) evening, check in. Overnight Hunza - Old Hunza Inn / Hunza Embassy / Hunza Serena (depending on availability).

Morning: Explore Karimabad bazaar, Baltit Fort (700 years) - former residence of Mir (ruler) of Hunza, museum with old weapons, clothes, Tibetan-influenced architecture, balcony views of Ultar Peak 7,388m. Walk down to Karimabad. Afternoon: Altit Fort (900 years) - oldest fort in Hunza, Tibetan architecture, renovated by Aga Khan Trust, royal garden with 1,100-year-old apricot trees, views of Hunza River. Altit village walk - traditional houses, old mosque. Evening: Drive to Duikar (Eagle's Nest) viewpoint (2,900m) - 20 mins drive + 10 mins walk - 360° panoramic sunset over Hunza Valley: Rakaposhi 7,788m, Ultar 7,388m, Ladyfinger 6,000m, Golden Peak - best sunset in Pakistan, peaks turn gold. Return Karimabad.

Drive to Upper Hunza Gojal (1.5 hrs). First stop: Attabad Lake - 21km long turquoise lake formed 2010 landslide that blocked Hunza River. Continue: Gulmit village - Gulmit Museum, Passu village - Passu Cones - 6,000m+ cathedral-like peaks, most photographed peaks in Pakistan, Passu Glacier viewpoint. Hussaini village - Hussaini Suspension Bridge - 400m long, made of ropes & wooden planks over Hunza River, known as one of world's most dangerous bridges - walk across (optional, safe with harness).

Full-day excursion to Khunjerab Pass - highest paved international border in world at 4,693m. Early 07:00 AM departure. Drive KKH Upper Hunza → Sost (last town, immigration) 1 hr → Khunjerab National Park 2 hrs → Khunjerab Pass Top 4,693m 1 hr. Total 4 hrs up, 4 hrs down. En route: see ibex, Marco Polo sheep (rare), yaks, marmots, snow leopard habitat. At Top: Pakistan-China border gate, Chinese soldiers on other side, snow even in summer, prayer flags, Khunjerab Top marker. Altitude 4,693m

Scenic KKH via Indus Valley. Stop at Rakaposhi Viewpoint again, Jaglot confluence (where 3 mountain ranges meet: Himalaya, Karakoram, Hindukush). Overnight Besham - Hilton / Chilas - Panorama. Note: If Babusar Pass open (June-Oct), we can go via Babusar to Naran for variety - scenic.

Early departure Besham/Chilas → Islamabad 6-7 hrs via Hazara Motorway (or Kaghan Valley if via Naran). Arrive Islamabad afternoon, transfer to Islamabad International Airport for onward flight. Tour ends.
