Kalash Uchau Autumn Festival

The Kalash autumn harvest festival - three days of rituals, dance and feasting in the walnut valleys of Chitral.

Uchau is the Kalash autumn festival, held every September when the walnut harvest is gathered in the valleys of Bumburet, Rumbur and Birir.

Over three days, the Kalash people hold ancient rituals and dances to give thanks for the harvest, with singing, feasting and the preparation of traditional dishes from the season's walnuts and grapes. It is one of the most intimate and authentic of the Kalash celebrations, with far fewer visitors than the spring festival.

Witnessing Uchau offers an unforgettable glimpse into the rhythms of Kalash village life.

Event Highlights

  • Ancient harvest thanksgiving rituals
  • Traditional dance and songs
  • Seasonal Kalash cuisine with fresh walnuts
  • An authentic, crowd-free cultural experience
