Sunday, March 21, 2027Celebrations from morningGilgit city and valleys across Gilgit-Baltistan, Gilgit

The Persian new year and spring equinox celebration, marked with polo, egg fights, folk music and community feasts.
Navroz (or Nowruz) marks the start of the spring season and the new year in the Iranian calendar, celebrated across Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral on the spring equinox (21 March).
In Gilgit-Baltistan, families gather to mark the occasion with special food, the exchange of gifts, and celebrations that blend Ismaili traditions with ancient spring customs. In Chitral, Navroz is a grand festival of polo matches, tug-of-war, egg fights and folk music.
It is a wonderful time to visit the north of Pakistan, when the valleys begin to bloom and communities come together in celebration.
